On with the show…

Where we left off was creating a killer SEO optimized
optin page (aka landing page, squeeze page, lead capture page)

Just about anyone can copy and paste the aweber code into
NVU and put an optin form on the page. But the secret
sauce is getting that page ranked on page one of Google.

There’s 2 parts of this SEO thing: onpage and offpage

Before I get into those – I wanted to let you know that I
got a lot of email back about yesterday’s email.

One thing that came up was when I mentioned 87 followup
emails. I know – sounds like a boatload. But here’s the thing…

You don’t have to do all of them at one time. You just need 7
to get the ball rolling. But keep in mind that the end goal
is somewhere around 87. You can take 6 to 12 months to
write them. I think you’ll agree that you can do it in a year.

What else you gonna do – buy WSOs?

Okay – onpage SEO is basically this: Make an offer for something
free that people in your niche will want to get. Put the offer
at the top of the page.

Then – in the rest of the page, write about you and your
relationship with the niche. If you are writing about a ficticious
person – then write about their relationship with the niche.

If the niche you want to sell in is – - uhhh – - how to get pregnant
(just an example) – - then you’ll write about your experiences with
getting pregnant problems, what they are, why they exist, and the
most common things people try and why they don’t work.

At the bottom of the page – you make your offer for your
free thing again and have the signup form from your autoresponder.

Now – decide which keyword phrase you want to target for page
1 of Google. In this example, you could pick something like
“how do i overcome infertility”.

I wouldn’t pick the most popular keyword, nor would I pick the
one with the most competition. All you need really is a few
thousand searches every month and the optins will come. But,
the more searches, the faster your list will grow and your income.

Now – scan your page and find 3 or 4 places that keyword will
fit into the page and copy and paste it in there. Make it bold
one time, and italic another time. Now put it in the HEADLINE
of the page or in the subheading.

That’s about it for onpage SEO. Pretty simple really.
(yes yes yes – there is a lot more technical stuff we could get into
but as far as the basics – that’s about it. If you are an SEO purist,
hang with me for a bit)

The offpage stuff is another kind of animal entirely and we’ll
dig into that in the next email.

incubates the prospects, and even upsells the buyers.

It took me 4 years to create it from scratch. Yep – 4 years.

But now that I know what goes into that kind of system, I can

an upsell for people that want even more (with the above ingredients)
List automation for prospects, front end buyers, and back end buyers
affiliate offers for buyers incorporated into the 87 emails
3 download pages – one for the optin, 1 for front end sale, 1 for upsell
a blog in a subfolder so I can post video messages to my subscribers
a collection of free stuff to give out over time to my readers

There’s the ingredients.

How you use the ingredients is what determines the recipe – and a good
recipe is what determines success or failure.

I’m going to assume you have a domain name and a hosting
account. (if you don’t have either – go to namecheap.com for the
domain name and hostgater.com for hosting)

To me – the most important part of the system is the SEO optimized
optin or lead capture page. Once you get this piece of the system
up and working, the rest of the stuff is EASY.

You really only need a free program like NVU or Kompzer and an
autoresponder service like AWEBER to get the optin page built.

Making an optin page is really pretty easy. Making an SEOed
optin page is a little tougher. It takes a bit more work – but you
can do it.

So – what is it?

It’s a market.  And I know that sounds simple but it’s really not.  I need to go into just a bit of detail here…

A “market” is a place where there is a demand for something and people are willing to pay for that something.  People have to WANT something and be willing to pay for it.  Pizza recipes, as an example, are probably not a very good market.

Why?

Because people can get thousands of free pizza recipes all over the internet.  If you’re wondering about this, just go to Google and type in “pizza recipes”.

While there is DEMAND for recipes, there isn’t anyone willing to pay for them.  I guess if you had a book of super strange, weird and gourmet pizza recipes, you might have a bit of luck (but I doubt it).

That brings us to markets where people are willing to PAY you for information.  So let me give you the “rule” that has always seemed to work for me.

If you have a solution to a common problem and anyone can locate the solution by searching for it long enough and hard enough, then that solution is something that people will probably pay you for.

Woah!

What?  So Mike, you are telling me that people will be able to find the information that I want to sell?  And they can find it for FREE?

Yes.

But here is the key… the information is NOT readily available with one simple search or even 2 searches or 3 searches.  People will pay you for saving their time, making it convenient, and instantly giving them the solution.

Sure, given enough time and dedication, anyone could locate the information they are seeking online.  But, it’s the time and dedication part that most people don’t have.  They would rather part with $17 or $27 or even $197 to get the information they want RIGHT NOW.

You can call it instant gratification, you can call it being lazy, you can call it whatever you like.  But the reality is that it is EASY and convenient – and you can charge a fee for making their life easier and making the information easily accessible.

In summary, the ONE THING you need is a group of people that want something that is not easily accessible.  All you have to do is provide easy access to that which they desire and they will PAY YOU for it.

Just a few examples of this are “how to get rid of a wart”, “how to make awesome wine at home”, “how to repair _____”, “the secret of award winning bar-b-q”.  And the list goes on and on.

In the internet marketing “make money online” niche, there are literally thousands of things that people want to learn how to do.  A great example of this is “how to do a .php redirect”.

I searched for a few hours to finally find a tutorial on how to do this one thing.  That few hours of my time was easily worth a few hundred bucks – right?  If I had seen a sales page that offered a step by step tutorial on how to do that and it was only $7, I would have bought it.  At the time, however, there wasn’t anything there (there may be now – I didn’t check).

So – find a market first, then provide them what they want.

You’ll make money – I guarantee it.

Yesterday and the day before, I was on the phone with Aweber telling them their stats were down and not working, I chatted with people on their live chat, and I also exchanged about 9 emails with their support people telling them something was wrong with their system.

Throughout the conversations, they initially denied that there was anything wrong.

My list was right at 10k for the niche market I was mailing to and the stats froze at 10am on Wednesday morning.  The told me over and over that my emaail had been sent and the stats WERE correct.  After much back and forth, I finally got a call from a manager late Wednesday and the manager told me – “yes – we are experiencing a delay in the stats.” 

FINALLY.

They could either say the stats were wrong, or they could say the emails didn’t go out – and I really didn’t care which it was as long as I knew one or the other.  And like I said, they finally told me the stats were delayed,

Now we know it’s much more than that.

Beginning sometime this morning or late last night, the Aweber site went down.

And as of this writing, it is still down.

I don’t know about you, but if I had a site that generated 100′s of thousands a month and I started getting a lot of emails and support requests about the stats – I would IMMEDIATELY look into it.  Rather than tell my customers that “nothing is wrong”, I would make sure they knew we had just done an update or some maintenance and now we are having some issues.

Here we are on a bright sunny Friday morning on June 3, 2011 – and NONE of their customers knows what is going on.  How many of them do you think will jump ship and head over to iContact?
